Sonoran Desert – Must SEE

Saguaro National Pk.

San Xavier del Bac Mission

Old Tucson Studios

Coyote in Sonoran Desert Museum

Tucson is located in the southern part of Arizona about 240 miles south of Flagstaff.  In order to do this we will have to spend the night in the Tucson area.  However it is well worth the trip.

Here we would visit the Saguaro National Park where the world’s largest cactus are found.  These giants reach over 70 ft. with some even higher.

In the area there is an old Spanish mission dating from the 1600s, called San Xavier del Bac.  This beautiful church has recently been restored and is again “the white dove of the desert.”

While in Tucson we would also visit Old Tucson Studios where many famous western have been filmed.  John Wayne was instrumental in creating this attraction.  Young Guns I & II were filmed here as was parts of Little House on the Prairie.

The last site in the immediate area is the Sonoran Desert Museum.  Rated by National Geographic as one of the best in the country…there are both plant and animal displays in their natural habitat.
